Simple SSL Doubt

Posted by striker9, 09-04-2007, 09:29 PM
hi! I have an ssl issued from my domain company and i have hosting in another company. I have created an CSR with my hosting, submitted to mine domain company so i can have the ssl, and installed in my hosting company. But now i want to change mine hosting because the hosting company doesn't accept chained certificates.. So if i change mine hosting i could mantain mine old ssl ? or what does i need to do? Thanks

If the hosting company doesn't accept "chained ssl certs", you most definitely want to get out of there. These aren't going to take anything but 30 seconds to install properly. Now, for the question: Do you need a new cert? No, you shouldn't. You should just be able to take the certificate you have no, and move it to the new host, providing you have the key, csr and all the junk that you needed to generate the cert itself. I've moved certs from host to host, server to server without any issue whatsoever.

striker9, Dont worry about the host change. You can use the same SSL certificate. SSL is domain specific and not host or IP specific.

linux-tech & david510 i will most definitely get out of my hosting, i'm tired of people saying the error in the firefox[server don't accept chained certificates error] it's a virus etc providing you have the key, csr and all the junk that you needed to generate the cert itself. -> i have the package with the all 4 files for the certificate. my doubt was just because in the past my ssl authority asked to put data from the Old hosting Domain specific eheh that's great. new hosting, problems of ssl solved

I agree. You should switch hosting companies. You can always have the certificate companies reissue the certificate. Good Luck,

If you have the Private key and certificate, you should have no problems installing the certificate on the same domain (with a different hosting provider). Reissuing of the certificate is another option, but some of the SSL providers charge for it (esp the cheaper ones)
