clustered.net down?

Posted by reloaded, 03-07-2011, 10:32 AM
All my servers at clustered.net are down! Anyone know what might be happening (my support tickets haven't been responded to yet)

Posted by g1media.co.uk, 03-07-2011, 10:43 AM
Site also just went down a while ago, ticket raised but nothing as yet.

Posted by SaaSMX, 03-07-2011, 10:59 AM
Same here and waiting for ticket response.

Posted by g1media.co.uk, 03-07-2011, 10:59 AM
wondering if it's another DDoS attack

Posted by amduk, 03-07-2011, 11:02 AM
I've just noticed mine's down, you guys get any news yet?

Posted by g1media.co.uk, 03-07-2011, 11:04 AM
just tried the emergency line as I'm trying to get something signed off by a client and it's going straight to mobile voicemail

Posted by reloaded, 03-07-2011, 11:07 AM
No news here. Wish they'd take a few seconds to update the status page.

Posted by include, 03-07-2011, 11:12 AM
Same situation here guys - no update as yet.

No signs of life still...

Posted by amduk, 03-07-2011, 11:22 AM
Indeed, surely that's the whole point of having it!

Posted by Techy, 03-07-2011, 11:24 AM
That's terrible ... sorry to hear that. Hope the client understands.

Posted by Jay Cornwall, 03-07-2011, 11:36 AM
It had all the external symptoms of a DDoS attack before the network dropped completely. It is a little sad that as Clustered has grown it's attracted an increasing number of targets for network-wide disruption.

Posted by reloaded, 03-07-2011, 11:40 AM
What's even sadder is that John promised the last time this happened (which was last month) that "...we are treating this incident with the highest level of attention and are prepared to make any and all changes required..." but I guess there's not really that much you can do with a very large DDOS? (If this is a DDOS).

Posted by VirtualT, 03-07-2011, 11:45 AM
My server isn't back up yet, but their website is, so I'm guessing they're getting whatever it is sorted!

Posted by reloaded, 03-07-2011, 11:48 AM
Their website has been up the entire time - they have failover setup on two different IP addresses (89.145.82.21 and 91.197.32.152)

Posted by SaaSMX, 03-07-2011, 11:51 AM
Their site has been up for me all the time. Maybe some peering problems ?

Posted by VirtualT, 03-07-2011, 11:53 AM
Dunno ... all I know is both my server and their site were down for me, and now their site is up

Posted by reloaded, 03-07-2011, 11:54 AM
Are there *any* reliable hosts? I'm so tired of moving my servers between hosts. I've moved from wiredtree to vps.net (what a mess that was) to linode (they couldn't get snapshot backups to work on my servers) and now to clustered.net where I have outages at least once a week and DDOS once a month!

Posted by SaaSMX, 03-07-2011, 11:58 AM
KnownHost has been rock solid for me for a year now. Zero outages so far.

Posted by reloaded, 03-07-2011, 11:59 AM
Unfortunately, I need a Uk host - and clustered came highly recommended. I wouldn't mind so much if they just kept us updated on their status page, or on twitter or whatever.

Posted by VirtualT, 03-07-2011, 12:01 PM
Dunno! I never had a problem when I was with WiredTree, and Clustered are rarely down for me, but then there's the VPS I have with another company which is supposed to be good, but the VPS takes a little lie down on a regular basis! I'm surprised you have outages once a week with Clustered. Sometimes I wonder whether you get an occasional dodgy install. Guess server admins will be able to answer this better (or shoot me down in flames!)

Posted by include, 03-07-2011, 12:02 PM
And my site is backup now guys!

Posted by SaaSMX, 03-07-2011, 12:03 PM
Seems they're getting up. Pings are OK now.

Posted by amduk, 03-07-2011, 12:17 PM
Very slow for me...

Posted by Techy, 03-07-2011, 12:21 PM
Glad to hear it .. hopefully the speeds pick up. I'm sure their will be alot of people accessing at same time now.

Posted by SaaSMX, 03-07-2011, 12:26 PM
Anyone got a RFO yet ? Status page hasn't been updated yet, i guess they're still tuning things up.

Posted by SaaSMX, 03-07-2011, 12:32 PM
And we're down again... EDIT: Uhm no, it was just a glitch appearently.

Posted by Techy, 03-07-2011, 12:33 PM
GRrrrrrr that's frustrating. Anyone considering switching hosts?

Posted by reloaded, 03-07-2011, 12:35 PM
definitely - but to where? Linode is fantastic, but expensive (compared to clustered) Rackspace is also expensive.

Posted by g1media.co.uk, 03-07-2011, 12:38 PM
my server is backup it seems

Posted by Techy, 03-07-2011, 12:43 PM
Rackspace is very expensive

Posted by reloaded, 03-07-2011, 12:43 PM
Status page: so it wasn't a DDOS.

Posted by amduk, 03-07-2011, 01:25 PM
I thought they had redundant everything? The lack of comms is annoying, i dont see why its so hard to have a twitter account to quickly keep us informed externally. Had trouble with sagepay over last few days also but they have a twitter account to keep us informed which was something..

Posted by SaaSMX, 03-07-2011, 02:33 PM
This would be a good time to ask them about "the redundant everything" advert.

Posted by amduk, 03-07-2011, 02:39 PM
Just did, funny how the status page says they updated it at 14:25, when I'm sure there was nothing there until a good couple of hours later???

Posted by Ed-Freethought, 03-07-2011, 02:41 PM
They are definitely backdating their status page updates as they weren't there at the time, but that may just be to make sure that people don't think that there is a second problem. It could probably have been worded better on their part though.

Posted by reloaded, 03-07-2011, 05:03 PM
Whatever happens, clustered.net really does get things fixed fast. And the email they've just sent out to clients explaining the cause of the outage was all I needed to restore my faith in them. And they've also undertaken to create a Twitter account!

Posted by Jay Cornwall, 03-07-2011, 06:23 PM
I'm continuing to see packet loss following a period of good connectivity earlier.

Posted by Flappysocks, 03-07-2011, 07:04 PM
This is worrying. I joined Clustered just prior to the recent DDos attack, after seeing lots of recommendations on here. And now this. Their VPS is great, and the network seems fast. Makes you wonder how redundant their network is though.

Posted by amduk, 03-08-2011, 05:29 AM
I wouldn't worry, I'm certainly not gong anywhere yet. Apart from this and the recent DDOS attack it was a good while since I last had any major outage and I'd be very surprised if we had another soon if they're improving things further. I don't think you'll find a perfect host and these are probably better than most. The Twitter account will be beneficial at last. (I'm sure clustered must be reading this ;-) ) Last edited by amduk; 03-08-2011 at 05:35 AM.

Posted by Flappysocks, 03-08-2011, 06:40 AM
I need some assurances that their network is truly redundant before I order any more VPS's. Otherwise, the product is one of the best I have used. Its true, providers that have had a few disasters, often come out much stronger.

Posted by target, 07-16-2011, 04:52 AM
Just wanted to join Clustered when i bumped into this topic. I noticed a lot of clients responded in this ticket, i have a few questions. - Do they really have that much outages, once a week ? - What do you think of Clustered in general ? Would you join them again knowing what you know now ?

Posted by reiteration, 07-16-2011, 05:44 AM
You can see outages here. http://uptime.alertra.com/uptime.php...red.net+uptime This includes scheduled maintenance. I can assure you we don't have outages each week and DDoS each month!

Posted by g1media.co.uk, 07-16-2011, 06:34 AM
absolutely - they're the best host I've ever been with. Downtime perhaps once a year for 1 hour max generally. I can cope with that. Great support and a competitive price too.

Posted by bledaone, 07-19-2011, 03:03 AM
@target From my own experience, clustered.net's hardware is top notch, up-time is high, technicians are helpful and emergency support tickets are always handled quickly. The network from here, Indonesia, is not so fast, ping about ~330ms. But because I use CDN for other than the main HTML, it isn't a big deal. Some not so good side are a long time needed for normal ticket reply, and not so friendly in tickets (not rude, but not so friendly either). Overall, it is one of the BEST provider I've tried so far. Point : 8/10 ==> satisfied. My IP : 89.145.87.22

Posted by bledaone, 07-19-2011, 03:36 AM
@reiteration Real good uptime, indeed. Any plan to open new location(s) outsite UK? Maybe in West Coast US.

Posted by target, 07-19-2011, 03:46 AM
@bledaone ... I've been mailing with John a few times with some questions and it all sounds very friendly and helpfull with fast response times. What do u mean with 'long time needed for normal tickets' ?

Posted by bledaone, 07-19-2011, 04:05 AM
@target Hi target, thanks for the reply Not so friendly in tickets (not rude, but not so friendly either) ==> Well, no "warm and calming" touch to be precise. Example : "hi bledaone, thanks for contacting, your request has been done. anything we can help futher? ". I always like that warm and friendly approach rather than short, "hi, it's been done". But that's not a big deal, since it's only my perception. What's more important is : they always super helpful and always resolved all my problems since I joined them in the last 6 months. Long time needed for normal tickets ==> Well, maybe it's just for me, not for UK/US customers. I live in GMT +7, and Clustered.net in GMT. Their support time is 09:00-22:00 GMT, and my working time is 08.00-17.00 GMT +7, so often times I need to wait several hours until my 'normal' support request is read and replied due to the timezone difference. As for emergency ticket, they are always fast, and available 24x7. Emergency tickets are averaging <10 minutes in my experience. Mmm... maybe they want to open the 'normal ticket' support to be available 24x7 too? I believe it'll be great, Overall : if you have the budget, and have no problem with London datacenter location, clustered.net is a real good choice. Great hardware, helpful support, firewall, high uptime, r1soft... nice!

Posted by target, 07-19-2011, 04:52 AM
Bledaone, thanks for clearing this out.

Posted by bledaone, 07-19-2011, 04:53 AM
@target You're welcome

Posted by g1media.co.uk, 08-13-2011, 07:53 AM
down again

Posted by reloaded, 08-13-2011, 07:55 AM
Yes, they seem to be having some serious problems. Most (not all) of my servers are offline.

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-13-2011, 08:05 AM
Routing issues, they are investigating. Some of our servers are reacheable, some not.

Posted by target, 08-13-2011, 08:07 AM
This is dissapointing .. just moved and tought they were reliable.

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-13-2011, 08:10 AM
They are, they're just not immune to common hosting problems. I haven't had any serious downtime in 1+ years. I hope they fix this soon.

Posted by g1media.co.uk, 08-13-2011, 08:25 AM
typical that this happens after the week I've had on another vps with them - I find the support response times are increasing also.

Posted by target, 08-13-2011, 08:25 AM
So this is just bad luck ? I hope so. But the last downtime was just two months ago .. (july 3) ?

Posted by target, 08-13-2011, 08:35 AM
Did anyone get any response on a ticket yet ? Does anyone have a phone number ?

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-13-2011, 08:39 AM
Have anyone had any ticket response yet ? I only got notice from the status page and twitter. My only rant about clustered is support, like bledaone said, it isn't friendly enough for my taste, it almost seems that they feel they're doing you a favor.

Posted by reiteration, 08-13-2011, 08:39 AM
We are looking at this, no tickets are being responded to at the moment.

Posted by reloaded, 08-13-2011, 08:40 AM
Yeah - their support is not very friendly or fast. Luckily I haven't had to ask for support very often. Over an hour's downtime now, with no update on their status page. Frustrating.

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-13-2011, 08:46 AM
At least an update here or your status page would be nice. It's been an hour and we would like to have a clue beyond "routing issues".

Posted by target, 08-13-2011, 08:53 AM
I agree ... we have to inform our clients also.

Posted by anthonysomerset, 08-13-2011, 09:07 AM
i found there number elsewhere on this forum but its going to a voicemail: 0845 680 9810 - it must have been removed from the website at some point i'm getting frustrated because at least 2 of my servers are down for reasons seperate of the routing issues as i can connect but getting connection refused via ssh i do agree that support is definitely not what it used to be, its friendly enough but just pretty damn slow for something advertised as 24/7 support

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-13-2011, 09:14 AM
Have you ever got any response from a another person besides John or Mel ? I think they're probably understaffed.

Posted by anthonysomerset, 08-13-2011, 09:18 AM
personally never, i was wondering if its a 2 or 3 man team thats grown in client base but not staffing (reminds me of too many tech/hosting companies)

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-13-2011, 09:27 AM
one server up for me.

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-13-2011, 09:29 AM
Now all up for me hoping they remain

Posted by pedrojose, 08-13-2011, 09:31 AM
Hello, We also only have responses from john and mel. They both are very simple and direct on communication, but they resolve problems fast. More fast in the past is true. Regarding outtages anf downtime, we get back agai to the poor way that clustared handles this situations interms of communication. For us its very important to have info to inform our clients. Hope this get fixed soon.

Posted by anthonysomerset, 08-13-2011, 09:34 AM
i have servers connectable again but still seeing issues connecting out of those servers, for example one is a monitoring server with zabbix, it cant connect to any other servers, and one cant connect to its database server as its still not got internal IP's but yes outage comms sucked, so glad these events are pretty rare for clustered.net EDIT: looks like all back now Last edited by anthonysomerset; 08-13-2011 at 09:44 AM.

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-13-2011, 06:33 PM
Anyone got further information on this ? No response at all to my ticket.

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-13-2011, 08:49 PM
Got it minutes later my previous post.

Posted by target, 08-14-2011, 04:06 AM
Every client got a mail explaining the situation. "Between approx 12:45 and 14:15, we experienced 100% CPU usage on our Intrusion Prevention Systems.Failover was initiated due to the master not resonding, however the failover then produced 100% CPU. After a longer than usual diagnosis with the vendor we had a fix and this was put in place. A patch will be releasing to remedy the bug and it will be applied as soon as this is made available."

Posted by reloaded, 08-14-2011, 09:27 AM
And they've just gone down AGAIN!

Posted by djmicron, 08-14-2011, 09:31 AM
down for me too

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-14-2011, 09:34 AM
Yep, down again, great.

Posted by djmicron, 08-14-2011, 09:39 AM
on network status page

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-14-2011, 09:45 AM
It is curious that this is happening about the same time yesterday affecting same servers.

Posted by pedrojose, 08-14-2011, 09:45 AM
Hi, Also down for me. Yesterday a bug, today a ddos attack... I'm starting to thibk how fragile is clustered network. Aren't they supose to hace an anvanced and redundant firewall protection systems? This situation as already cost me to loose 2 clients... Veri disappointed on how clustered in this 2 days as lost my top notch quality opinion.

Posted by reloaded, 08-14-2011, 09:51 AM
very curious: not all my servers are affected, only those that were affected yesterday. I despair of ever finding a reliable UK host.

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-14-2011, 09:57 AM
Does any of you know about a host that offer same server specs that clustered in the US ? Of course at about same price. It seems that something similar in the US cost a lot more. That is why i'm with clustered.

Posted by George_Fusioned, 08-14-2011, 09:59 AM
Yeap my servers are down again today too.

Posted by djmicron, 08-14-2011, 10:09 AM
update on network status

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-14-2011, 10:29 AM
Looks like they're coming back

Posted by djmicron, 08-14-2011, 10:36 AM
Yes, they adopted the most drastic solution.

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-14-2011, 10:58 AM
Well, appearently, not enough. Down again.

Posted by target, 08-14-2011, 11:51 AM
Yep, again down for one hour .. a large DDoS attack

Posted by djmicron, 08-14-2011, 12:17 PM
from clustered.net

Posted by SWATServers-Brant, 08-14-2011, 05:19 PM
It sounds like, Clustered.net gets attacked quite a bit..

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-15-2011, 08:26 AM
Right on time, here we go again.

Posted by reiteration, 08-15-2011, 08:35 AM
Everything is looking ok from our monitoring and bandwidth stats. If you have a problem raise a ticket.

Posted by SaaSMX, 08-15-2011, 10:49 AM
It was just a small glitch, but on the third day, at about the same time it scared me.
