Newbie needs some help with reseller hosting

Posted by gotwebsites, 12-07-2012, 05:38 AM
Hello, all. I know that these types of threads are created hourly, but I am trying to find a reliable host that I can use to learn about the reselling business. I have went through many of the threads in the Offers/Reseller Hosting forums, but I am more confused now about which host to choose than I was when I started. My budget is around $25/month, and some of the features I am looking for are cpanel/Whm, reliable end user support, unbranded tutorials for clients, American data center, free legal documents, and, most importantly, a reliable company. I realize, because I am just starting out, I won't really need most of those features. The most important ones to me are to host with a reliable company that has been around for a while, and can provide white label support for my clients. Can I get some recommendations, and maybe a few tips?

You have to start with something. From the list in the offers section, pick a few that you like and search for reviews here in the forum. Stay away from "so good to be true" offers. Host some clients or maybe just some friends. Monitor the performance of the server for a few weeks, it will mostly be reflected on your website performance. Then, if you don't like your provider, shift to a different one. Just make sure you pre-pay monthly only. That's what I did when I was new with reselling.

Your budget is reasonable. You can go with any well known hosting company. But IMO, ezpz is the only company who is offering free legal documents, free end-user support and tutorials etc or innohosting is one i think.

Hi, jin. What are some of the things that I should be looking at regarding server performance? Only uptime, and server load?

I'd also recommend EZPZ hosting. The 'Business'plan would fit your budget and if you use the promo in the offers section you'll get free upgrade to the 'Professional' plan for life. You also get a 25% discount I do believe See http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1210699 They provide end user support, legal docs, whitelabel servers, free SSL's etc - pretty much all you need to set up. Dan and the team provide top-notch support as well. Good Luck in your search!

You can ask host for the website that they are hosting and check performance of it across the globe. If you find load time is better, that's good sign. Other than this uptime and server load can also be considered.

I would take a look at http://ThePrimeHost.com as well. They've been around for many years and offer the features that you need.

What kind of websites are you planning to host in your reseller account and what will be the average traffic of those websites?

Posted by Sonwebhost, 12-07-2012, 02:30 PM
Where are you located if that is important to you and your clients, you can check the wht section for good resellers today with c panel and whm you will get a good bargain for your budget enjoy your hosting.

Thanks for your response. I don't have many clients right now, but I wil be hosting wordpress powered websites. I'm not expecting a lot of initial traffic. I plan on using each reseller account for a max of ten websites...Will ten instances of wordpress use too much resources?

You have lots of options at that budget. You can get reseller plans from hostgator, site5 etc for that price.

I recommend Hostdime or Surpasshosting(a part of Hostdime company). I have a lot of accounts on their servers for years. Their support is fast and services are good.

I've gotten a little confused in my research too! I thought picking the company was going to be one of the easier things to mark off of my list but it has proven to be one of the most time consuming. I really want to choose a host that is 'newbie' friendly because I'm still not over the hump in my learning curve, but the only host I have found that even comes close to offering anything for those learning the business is Hostgator - they 'give away' free access to an ebook with their accounts - but there was something else about them that stopped me (I can't remember what it was off the top of my head.) I have seen EZPZ recommended more than any of the others but have also seen where their servers were down not too long ago and people were panicking. It definitely gets confusing.

Hey, Stanley! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one having a little trouble. The only reason that I am a little hesitant about going with ezpz, or hostgator is because their disk space, and bandwidth are a little less than the others. I wanted a reseller account with 100GB hosting so I can divide each client into 10GB chunks. I guess most of my clients won't really use that much space so I don't really need all that storage anyway. Have you decided on a host yet?

Posted by DDStanley, 12-07-2012, 08:52 PM
No not yet, and I've been comparing and researching them for over a week non-stop. I have come to the conclusion that I just need to jump in -- maybe even using one of the cheaper options -- and just play around with configurations and setting things up.... THEN I'll probably have a better idea of what to look for and what I really want.

Posted by gotwebsites, 12-07-2012, 10:09 PM
I'm going to do that too. I'm going to do a little more research, and will make my decision later on tonight. I'll most likely be going with ezpz. Good luck.

QUOTE= I'll most likely be going with ezpz. [/QUOTE] I might go with them too.... even though I read a post just a bit ago where someone was having trouble understanding their tutorials and they said tech support wasn't being much help. I'm to the point that I just have to jump in and see for myself :-)

Posted by gotwebsites, 12-07-2012, 11:30 PM
Do you happen to remember why you didn't go with hostgator? I think I'm going to go with them now

Posted by clauuudiu, 12-08-2012, 01:03 PM
I had just same dilemma a week ago. Hard to decide actually, but eventually i went with EZPZ. All good until now.

Posted by GreenValueHostGM, 12-08-2012, 01:11 PM
EZPZHosting is the best reseller host you'll ever find. Try them out!

Posted by DDStanley, 12-08-2012, 02:33 PM
Their pricing and plans will make it harder to be profitable. / There are so many others with good reputations that give a lot more space and bandwidth for the same money and features.

Posted by gotwebsites, 12-10-2012, 12:29 AM
Do you think you can give me a couple of names? I was going to go with host gator, but I found out that I basically have to handle all my users tech support questions myself, and relay their questions to host gator's tech support.

I've been making a spreadsheet to better compare them..... I;m hoping to finish it tonight or tomorrow - I'll give you a copy when I get it finished.

Awesome! Thanks

Start small and grow you can try one of the resellers in the wht offer section look at your business plan and what you will need to start out and your budget for one year.

If you want a business partner, I might be interested. With budget of $25 and my knowledge&experience you could have dedicated server 2CPU/2GB RAM, If I pay $25 and you pay the same, we will have 8CPU and 8GB RAM dedicated server for $50.

Well, I logged in to share my list with you and realized its on my other computer ... ugh. Blonde Moment. I'll post it in the morning. But I also wanted to tell you that I made my final decision early this morning and you might want to check out the company I went with. New companies do lack track records and reviews so they may seem risky for those who already have clients, but I'm just starting out and will have a month or so to gauge the service and uptime before I will be adding any clients so I'm totally fine with it. Plus they had a first month special and I had decided to find something cheap to learn on for a month anyway :-) I found them while comparing specials in the WHT offers section -- their offer was 4 or 5 pages back... And so far so good! I'm very happy with my decision (first impressions/ 12 hours in -- lol) Their website is one of the VERY few that had none of the nuisances I'll list below...instead it was nicely formatted, their fees were explained and they didn't lie about how long they have been in business - overall I think it is the best indicator of what to expect from them: Honesty, professionalism, and the presence of mind to care about what they do and how they do it (and its probably the main reason I chose them) Some people may think this is silly but honestly... *I hate typo's on websites, like misspellings or incorrect language usage, *I hate hosting companies that advertise their annual pricing in a monthly format It reminds me of bait&switch schemes - and cheesy used car marketing. I'd rather deal with straight forward, open and honest companies who are proud of what they offer., *I hate dead links *I hate links that circle back to the same page instead of where they are supposed to go, *and I hate sites that want money without giving full information and disclosure The above list knocks out about 99% of Reseller Hosts. It amazes me that so many companies do not take the time to double-check or proof read how they present themselves! The Company I chose is...... drum roll please.... GreenValueHost<< testing my affiliate link :-) www.greenvaluehost.com< and the regular link. Here is what I chose for my starter plan: GVH-R II / $7.20 monthly (+ $10 WHMSC = $17.20 a month) 15GB Space 200GB Bandwidth No cPanel Account Limit (most limit a plan of this size to 10) 30 monthly Support Tickets (for my Clients) Custom Nameservers NEO Domain Reseller Account eNom Domain & SSL Reseller PositiveSSL Certificate LiteSpeed Powered cPanel/WHM RVSiteBuilder PRO Softaculous Auto Installer Daily Protected Backups Overselling Enabled CloudFlare CDN Virus Protection 99.99% Uptime SLA Guarantee Live Chat Support 30-Minute or Less Responses 24/7 Helpdesk Technical Support Overall, their pricing is decent, they have a .99 coupon code (code is FIRSTMONTH) and they have time to help me if I need it. WHMCS is an optional monthly add-on and is $10 which is a fair deal ($5 Cheaper than if I went directly through WHMCS for the service) so my total for this first month was $10.99. The only problem I had was confirmation emails and set-up emails. I thought I didn't receive them and kept waiting and waiting. I opened a support ticket and long story short... All (6) emails were in my junk mail folder -- I didn't even know my google account HAD a junk mail folder!!! Hope this helps you, sorry it was so long!!! I'll post my spreadsheet list for you asap! Dana

I'd rather it go through me so I'll know it was handled and that everybody's still happy! But I also don't have other obligations that keep me from being able to do it. :-)

Posted by DDStanley, 12-11-2012, 09:27 PM
btw ... I just wanted to clarify that my WHMSC was optional. GVH-RII is $7.20 monthly (.99 first month with code) so its a cheap way to learn more like we were talking about a few days ago :-) I just wasn't sure if that was clear enough in my original post.lol. Dana

If this is the your first time you want to start your Hosting Business, i suggest you test all the Hosting providers, because nobody have the 100% of reason which is the best hosting provider. Also you have to look for a hosting with cPanel / WHM (because this Control Panel is the Best on the industry of hosting and you can migrate several linux panels to this control panel)
