cPanel reseller with IRC support?

Posted by ioiom63, 01-29-2010, 03:18 PM
Can anyone recommend a host that offers Linux/cPanel reseller accounts, and offers technical support via IRC? The IRC channel doesn't need to be staffed 24/7 but it would be helpful if it were open 24/7. I'm looking for a host that does NOT offer unlimited space and bandwidth. We use 5-10GB of space, minimal bandwidth, SSH, and need to be able to install a few PHP modules. Servers in North America would be nice too. I'm looking in the $25/month range. I don't need to be able to run anything to do with IRC myself. Thanks

Why are you looking for IRC support? Not many hosts use that. We tried it once but didn't really work out. Usually ticket system should be enough and your budget is very good for what you're requiring.

So I'm finding I like IRC support because customers can idle in the channel and help each other when staff are off duty. I find it easier to interact in real-time than in a forum. It's also easy to get a feel for the satisfaction of other customers by idling in the IRC channel.

I agree that it's easier to interact, I Use IRC for my gaming forum and it can get pretty active from time to time in there. But most hosts dont' use IRC because they can't get many people idling the channel, even if they have a ton of clients.

I received a few PMs. Just to clarify, yes I do need cPanel, no the server can't be Windows based, and yes I do need SSH access.

Hosts aren't allowed to PM you offers, they're clearly breaking rules. You can report those PMs because I'm pretty sure you're not the only one they bother/will bother. SSH access may be given as Jailed SSH in most cases. If you need root access, you need to aim for a VPS at least.

Jailed SSH is fine. I sincerely hope nobody would give me root access on a shared server!

Have a look in the offers section, there are loads in there for what you want

I searched the "Reseller Hosting Offers" forum for IRC and didn't find anything. I wouldn't consider that "loads"

You'd be surprised by how many people asked me to give them root access to the server so they can install their software... And if you can't find anything, it could be a sign that you should leave that as a requirement.
