Grid vs. VPS Nodes - which one to choose?

Hi folks, Right now we have a bunch of VPS nodes/machines, based on XEN and OpenVZ. Everything is nice and smooth. The biggest "problem" is the fact that, sometimes, a lot of the resources are really not used. In reality...most of the machines have less than CPU 50% load%, use less than 50% of their storage and use less than 50% of their RAM. We can't just downgrade everything, because some of are clients need horsepower sometimes, and adding/removing 4gigs of RAM - when needed - is not really feasible (thinking at the low cost this implies). So I started thinking about "the grid". I've read some docs and seems that a grid behaves like a single machine, with a "single OS" and a "single storage". So - in our case - we could transform some machines into storage arrays and some machine into processing arrays. This way we could use more CPU/RAM from active machines, and shutdown the unnecessary ones when not needed (long live Earth). This will also lower the prices for backup, licenses, etc. What do you think about this? Is it possible? What are the pros and cons? What are the prices? Should we stick with the more "traditional" way of VPS nodes? Thanks!

Nobody interested in "TheGrid"? I was thinking that this would be a hot-topic heh
