Newbie Nameserver Question

Posted by whiteguy, 12-09-2007, 03:45 PM
If I have a reseller account and a client signs up, where do they point their domain name servers to? Do they point their domain to my nameserver/site example... ns1.resllerdomain.com and ns2.resllerdomain.com?

When you say "resellerdomain.com" Are your referring to your domain? Or your web hosting company's domain name? If you have private name servers then you can point it to your own domain. . . ns1.yourdomain.com ns2.yourdomain.com however, if you don't have private name servers it would probably be ns1.yourhost.com ns2.yourhost.com

Hi, That would be correct - provided your host provides private name servers for you. I would recommend you do a little more research regarding these minor details before embarking with your company, though.

Yup, if your reseller provider offers private nameservers these should be clearly advertise on the website, else assume that you must use the parent hosts nameservers (your provider).

If you already have a reseller account, check the welcome email Information and instruction should be in there

Most hosts that offer reseller or multiple domain accounts provide you with "private nameservers", so that they remain "invisible" to your clients.
