[ipcheck] Problem with DNS setup on server.theavatarportal.org

Hey all, long time since I've been around. But I remember this being the place that has solved a number of my own issues and have another one for the brain trust. Here's an email I got early this morning after my site had crashed for all users late yesterday: I've checked the A entry, it is the IP it should resolve to (though I added it anyway). /etc/hosts has the correct IP. And my /etc/resolv.conf is as it should be. My webhost (neosurge) told me it was a php script exploit. I have since removed all php scripted pages from my site server, and since I am based on Wordpress, removed the contents when it went down and added a back up from a few months ago in the vain hope it would fix it, though I have likely not help at all or made it worse. Sorry to suddenly pop this on people so early in the morn, but this had me wracking my brain for the whole night. Thanks in advance to all who respond to help out.

it's not an exploit, just some harmless misconfiguration. what's in your /etc/resolv.conf file?

Thanks for the quick reply and help, rcs. Contents: And good to hear it is likely just that. I am not a wizard at web hosting, so any help is very appreciated.

hmm, can't tell you much more without checking the server my self but server[1-7].theavatarportal.org resolves to 64.74.223.40 might be that yesterday server.theavatarportal.org also resolved to that address and today it is fixed. See what happens tomorrow. Basically it's a harmless cpanel warning that you can ignore.

Hmm. Now I am unable to access the site (yesterday it was all ads), though I am also behind a work firewall now so not sure which is the culprit. Any reason it would do this? Or perhaps a way to fix it so the server[1-7] would resolve the correct IP?

UncleIrohAP, When I do a WHOIS lookup on the domain theavatarportal.org I show that it is in the status "AUTORENEWPERIOD" and that the nameservers are set to DNS1.NAME-SERVICES.COM. DNS2.NAME-SERVICES.COM. DNS3.NAME-SERVICES.COM. DNS4.NAME-SERVICES.COM, and DNS5.NAME-SERVICES.COM. The domain Have you verified that the domain was properly renewed already?

I am actually looking at this now, Mike, and thank you for your help. It seems that while I had transferred my domain to my current hosts at Neosurge back in July of 2010, for some reason on Whois it shows that my old host, WebHostingPad, is in control of it. It seems that my site went down on the expiration/renewal date of when I had it at WHP in March. I have since contacted both hosts. DNS for WHP has no number and only an email, and Neosurge only email contact. I have yet to hear from either of them since yesterday, so hopefully it will be resolved in the new few days. It is rather unfortunate timing as my site is dedicated to covering The Legend of Korra show, which is now due to come out tomorrow instead of April. Hopefully it will be resolved soon and I can try to direct others who have an unfortunate circumstance such as this either avoid it or fix it in the future.
