Posted by bbrog, 02-17-2012, 12:09 AM
Hi, after replacing a hard drive we started syncing data from driveb to drivea which brought the server load very high and then it stopped responding. After rebooting it the server wouldent move from the loading screen of the os. Its giving the following errors: etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: /bin/mv cannot execute binary file etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: /bin/dmesg cannot execute binary file bin/sh /bin/awk cannot execute binary file rcs post-stop process (1691) terminated with status 126 Please do let me know thanks!

Seems like you messed up at least one of your drives. Boot from a Live CD, format drivea and then reboot. If it's syncing again then, you should be fine. If the data on both drives is damaged now, you could only try to boot from a Live CD and then copy the default OS files from an ISO to your hard drive (eg. /bin, /usr, etc.) and see if it's possible to boot then.

It's always a possibility that your new drive is a "dud". You might want to remove the new one and see if it boots.

Sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble!! You might want to post some spec's (OS, hardware, Control Panel) so everybody has a better understanding in order to diagnose your issue.

As the others have said, it might be your hard drive. Have you recently passed from a 32bit to a 64bit environment? Do your binary files have the right permissions? You should definately boot from a LiveCD of your distro and verify why they can't be executed manually.

If you were in mid-transfer of files it's no telling where this critical syncing process got interrupted. And from what you are saying it sounds like there are definitely some inconsistencies somewhere.

Hi, thanks for the replies, does look like I will be needing to boot from live cd. I have contacted a new servermanagement company for a quote on this because my currently one really does not know what they are doing. I have also contacted the companies who offer services who responded to this thread. Thanks! PS: Looks like my sdb drive might be failing now also from what my datacenter told me.
