Need a new reseller

Posted by mojtabaf, 04-22-2006, 02:26 AM
Hi I have a client with a website having about 15000 visitors/day on his forum. Currently my servers can't support the load. I have contacted some hosts some told me that I can't use more than 4% of their cppu load and one told me there is a 20 mysql connection limit. I don't know how much cpu and mysql the site uses. Now tell me what should I do. My budget is about 15$. Do you know any reseller plan which can support the site? Should I get a shared plan for that site? Thanks

try godaddy....godaddy.com, i am using godaddy and they have good reseller accounts, just contact them and ask them if yes or no. why dont you try a dedicated server?

How many users online at the same time on this forum ?

before you use that host ask them and also tell them about what you need before signing so that you can avoid any problem.

I don't have a clue about the users. but there is a point. My users are from asia and mostly middle east so when here is day its at night in US so I think the server will not have much problems. My site uses about 20GB bandwidth.

you will need to check with him about the number of users at the same time. Or if you can share his URL, we can take a look. That will help to find out a suitable package

they are not a 15 dollars but at 40 dollars a mouth you find dedicated servers...

40/month for a dedicated server - I would not go with it. It's either too old hardware or or bad quality, or have to pay much for support, etc.

no is not, all are in good shape... any way how much space do you need it?

I have a very good saying for this in our TOS regarding detailed resource usage inshort Believe me, any hosting service [knows what they are allowing] wont host your site in a shared plan. Last edited by dolay; 04-22-2006 at 08:46 AM.

Ok what should I do now.If I plan using a VPS what specifications do I need? Is 128MB ram enough? How much CPU does it need?

Posted by ldcdc, 04-22-2006, 09:07 AM
That would make it about 50KB per visitor... low for a community IMO. Are you sure the 15000 represents visitors/day? It won't hurt to advise him to find a way to raise the budget. There's no shame to place ads on the website, accept donations, sponsorships, if the goal is right (keeping the community online, alive and kicking). The suggestion sound, if it weren't for the privacy issues that arise. If I get it right this is the website of a customer of his...

I have suspended the site so the server doesn't close my site. And If I wan't to raise the budget how much should I pay? What plan should I go with?

I have looked into the vps offers. Can I use somthing like this: CPU: 200mhz Memory: 128MB Hard Drive: 3GB Transfer: 100GB/mo is it enough?

I doubt anyone can tell you it's enough or not without knowing more stats about your customer site. I would go with a big reseller account, instead of that low-end VPS

I have contacted some hostings but I don't know what should I do. I think I have to host it for a month to see if it works or not.

I too doubt now if you really have 15000vistors[could this be the hit count?] If the forum really drives 15000visitors a day, it should be very famous and you should not be worry to budget like $200-300 monthly... According to my experiences, to host a forum with 15k daily visitor, even a regular p4 dedicated wont be enough but you may consider CPU with at least 1GB L2 cahce and SCSI drives.

and what do you mean of big reseller account?

Posted by gate2vn, 04-22-2006, 09:56 AM
or a semi-dedicated package. That's an account can have more system resources in shared hosting environment

ok any advice or offer?

Try a middle sized VPS and test it out. Most offer some sort of money back guarantee. If you don't like it make your final decision and go to a dedicated. Cost wise a VPS would be best as well and the good thing moving to a dedicated isn't complicated. That would be my two cents. -Jay

I would go for http://servage.net or http://dreamhost.com - they are not exactly offering reseller accounts, but I belive you should be able to host your clients website for around 7$ a month by them
